The Anoka City Council has given direction to develop an Emergency Street Maintenance Program to address the quickly deteriorating streets in the City starting this spring. The mild, snowier than normal winter in conjunction with repeated freeze thaw cycles all season, continuing into this spring, has created the perfect recipe for pothole formation and degradation of the bituminous(blacktop street) surfaces.
The City Council has allocated $1.2 million from its General Fund Reserves to be used this spring on citywide street maintenance and several project-specific streets. In addition to increasing pothole patching, the City will be administering several street maintenance strategies such as spray patching, mill & overlays, as well as a full bituminous reclamation proposed project along Harrison Street between 3rd Avenue and 7th Avenue.
